Philadelphia Car Accident Ends In Arrest Of Off Duty Officer

Many of our Philadelphia readers have probably heard about the car accident that occurred in the early morning hours of March 12. Car accidents happen every day, but this one stood out because it involved an off duty police officer – and he was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Any Philadelphia DUI attorney could tell our readers that an arrest will complicate many aspects of a person’s life. Beyond having to go through the criminal justice process, which can sometimes take quite a while, many times the arrestee has to deal with the humiliation of being arrested in the first place. For the police officer arrested in this recent crash, this is most likely a huge part of what he is going through.

Fortunately, it does not appear that there were any serious injuries as a result of the accident. The reports indicate that there were three cars involved in the crash altogether, and two passengers in one of the vehicles were transported to receive a medical evaluation. According to the report, after the accident occurred the police officer allegedly got out of his vehicle and began to show everyone his badge, but one of the other drivers reported noticing the smell of alcohol on the officer.

After on-duty police officers responded to the accident, the off duty officer was arrested and was originally held on $25,000 bail. He posted the requisite 10 percent to be released, but he is now facing several charges, including harassment and intimidation, to go along with the DUI charge. He has been placed on administrative leave by the police department during the ongoing investigation. Chances are that this officer is using his newly available free time looking for a good drunk driving defense attorney.
