Drinking Driver Program DDP

Drinking Driver Program (DDP)

Fulfilling Your Requirement for Education on Impaired Driving

One of the penalties for a conviction of DUI is needing to complete the Alcohol Highway Safety School (AHSS) program or the Drinking Driver Program (DDP). This curriculum can be taken through one of several different civic organizations, through a county DUI program or online. There is a fee for the class, dictated by the administering organization, and the class takes about 12 hours to 13 hours total, broken up into sessions.

The program was established in December, 2006 and its goal is to educate drivers about the effects of alcohol and drugs on their metabolism and judgment, to give an understanding about alcoholism and drug addiction and highway safety. The program seeks to promote changes in attitude regarding driving under the influence of alcohol or controlled substances.

Another possible alternative to AHSS is receiving an accelerated rehabilitative disposition (ARD), which will result in the dismissal of the charges against you if you successfully complete the program and supervisory period. This is only available for first-time offenders. While ARD may be a good option for some, there are other situations where the charges should be fought.

Our lawyers carefully explain and weigh all of your options, helping you understand what will ultimately be in your best interests. We have decades of experience handling DUI cases and will fight for your rights.
