Pennsylvania State Police Make Series Of Dui Stops During Last Part Of July

State troopers near the Pennsylvania city of Trevose made a series of DUI stops and charges during the last part of July. Police and state police often use roving patrols to scout streets and highways for drivers who may be under the influence at certain times of the evening and night. In order to pull a driver over to determine whether he or she may be intoxicated, police need reasonable suspicion.

State police made 10 DUI stops and arrests over the last two weeks of July in smaller cities northeast of Philadelphia like Bensalem. Many of the drunk driving stops occurred late at night or during early morning hours. On July 19, Pennsylvania State Police stopped a vehicle just after 1 a.m. on Interstate 95 in Bensalem. The driver was found to be intoxicated by police and faces DUI charges. The following evening another driver was stopped on Interstate 95 while traveling north in Bensalem. Police determined the 38-year-old driver was under the influence and charged him with drunk driving.

Drivers should be aware that police often pull drivers over for speeding and then determine whether a driver may be intoxicated. On July 21, state police stopped a vehicle for speeding on Interstate 95 around 12:40 a.m. near the 37.9 milepost in Bensalem. Police determined the 31-year-old man from Philadelphia was intoxicated and charged him with drinking and driving. Another driver who was speeding on I-95 northbound was pulled over by state troopers on July 26 around 2:16 in the morning. Police found the 23-year-old woman to be intoxicated and arrested her for DUI.

State troopers and city police may also suspect a driver is under the influence when a driver is found sleeping in his or her vehicle. Two weeks ago, state police found a 25-year-old woman sleeping behind the wheel of her car at the Exit 40 ramp on Interstate 95. Officers determined the woman was under the influence and arrested her for drunk driving.
